Copán Ruins

Hieroglyphic Stairway

Earlier this March, our 9th Grade students embarked on a profound educational journey to the Copán Ruins, one of the most significant archaeological sites of the Maya civilization. This trip was designed not just as a leisure excursion, but as a deep dive into the historical and cultural roots of our region. Surrounded by the lush tropical forest, the students explored the Maya Acropolis, marveling at the preserved structures that once served as the heart of political and religious life centuries ago. A major highlight was visiting the famous Hieroglyphic Stairway, which contains the longest known Mayan hieroglyphic text, offering a gateway into the complex recorded history of the dynastic rulers. The group learned extensively about the reign of Uaxaclajuun Ub'aah K'awiil, popularly known as 18 Rabbit, whose artistic vision led to the creation of the magnificent stelae that define Copán's unique aesthetic. Understanding the Maya Legacy firsthand allowed our students to connect academic lessons with the reality of our ancestors achievements in astronomy, mathematics, and art. It was a week of discovery that will surely influence their perspective on heritage and preservation for years to come.
